In the previous blog article, Daniel wrote about walking where Christ walked and not letting the chaos of the world distract us. I want to dive deeper into that—how do we focus on the Light in front of us when the waves threaten to pull us under and the wind tries to blow us away?
I’d like to start with the analogy of an anchor. Sailors use an anchor to keep their ship safely in place, no matter how strong the wind or waves are. If the anchor is secured, there’s no worry about the boat being carried away.
The same goes for God—He is our Anchor. No matter the storm we’re going through, we don’t have to be afraid because Jesus is always with us, holding us up even when it feels like we might sink. He never leaves us to face challenges alone. If our faith is secure in Christ, He will help us overcome even the strongest of trials.. We need to trust that God is our everlasting Anchor and won’t let the waves carry us away.
Yes, sometimes when the waves grow really strong, it can be hard not to doubt or fear, and to keep absolute faith in what God is doing. That’s when we have to look above the waves, past the violent winds, and focus on the Light…to remember and believe that God’s will is always perfect. Even when things don’t make sense, it makes sense to Him, our omniscient Father. All we need to say is, “Let Your will be done”.
Our trials can get tough, and hardships can become harder to bear, but we don’t bear them alone—because Jesus is here to lift us up and be with us through every storm. Philippians 4:7 says, “and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” We don’t need to understand why; we just need faith that God always knows what He is doing, and He will give us peace. Instead of doubting His plan, let God fill you with peace and reassure you that everything will turn out all right. It’s okay to feel fearful or worried. But when that happens, God tells us to pray—to share our feelings with Him. Ask Him for peace and remember His promise that He will never leave you.
In a biblical show my siblings like to watch, someone asked Peter, “Why did you sink?” (referring to Matt. 14:25-32). And he answered, “Because at that moment, I lost my faith.” There will be times when our faith is put to the test. But don’t let it break—don’t sink under the waves, weighed down by unbelief in God’s plan. Through storms, God is with us, always there to help and guide us if we submit to Him and ask for His help.
Always remember that Jesus tells us to “be of good cheer… do not be afraid” (Matt. 14:27). He promises that He’ll be there for us no matter the storm—no matter how strong the wind or waves are. He promises to always—always—be with you.
There’s always a light shining at the end of the storm. We just need to be strong enough to reach it—not relying on our own strength, but God’s. In difficult times, our faith has a chance to grow. In hard times, we have to learn to lean on Him—to trust God and depend on His strength. Our faith grows stronger in the middle of problems. When we face storms, Jesus doesn’t walk away from us; He walks with us.
Don’t let the waves and wind fill you with fear. Look past the chaos of the world and look to Jesus, and He’ll guide you through every storm.
